Studio Presentation Guide
These presentation tips are just as useful for the first time presenter, or the seasoned professional. Rehearsals are always available for any Westlink program and our friendly staff are only too happy to help with any queries.Establishing credibility and viewer rapport Making eye contact with the camera is perhaps the most crucial factor for establishing credibility and rapport with your viewers. It's not advisable to be fixed on the camera the whole time, but rather, presenters should refer regularly to the camera as though speaking to another person. The best Westlink presenters have a style which is professional while remaining friendly and relaxed. The important thing is to exploit your own personal qualities. Microsoft Powerpoint for television Using Powerpoint helps maximise the impact of your presentation. The following design features should be observed:
Overhead Document Camera The overhead document camera is a hands on item for presenters, it is used to show hard copies of graphs, charts, text, as well as photographs, brochures, books, specimens and a variety of other objects from plasticine to petri dishes. It's also used instead of a whiteboard for noting comments from callers or perhaps drawing quick diagrams to explain a point. The document camera is set up for the 4 x 3 television aspect ratio ie landscape format, so this should be kept in mind when preparing. For landscaped A4, allow 5cm borders for the left and right margins and 2.5cm borders for top and bottom margins. There is also a zoom in and zoom out button which allows for small objects eg a watch face to fill the whole television screen. Most guidelines as described above for PowerPoint also apply. All objects and other hard copy should be checked beforehand at a rehearsal session. Clothing Aim for mid range to dark colours. Avoid ALL whites and very light colours. Patterns with tiny dots or stripes, plaid, or herringbone can cause the television image to shimmer. Telephone interaction The Westlink toll free studio number is 1800 678 208, which is only available during the live program. If the program includes live interaction, allow sufficient time for callers to gather their thoughts and dial the number. The Westlink producer will indicate to you when there are callers waiting. The incoming caller will also be heard by viewers watching the program. Contact Westlink if you require any further details. |
